Me109G-2
III./JG 77 TROP.
W/Compass Platform Diorama |
$33.98 DRW50308 |
Designed by Willy Messerscmitt, the Me109 was a hugely
successful fighter built by Germany. With 30,573 units manufactured, it
was produced in higher quantities than any other fighter in history.
Indeed, the Me 109 alone accounted for 47% of all German WWII aircraft
production! A number of variants were produced over the course of its
lifetime, and the availability of the 1475hp Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine
gave rise to the G-series. In this “Gustav” series, the G2 was the
first production variant that began appearing in 1942. |

Razorback, 47th FS
w/Airfield Base Diorama |
$33.98 DRW50304 |
Shipping $7.95 in the USA A P-47D is the subject of a new Dragon Warbirds release. The finely crafted miniature from Warbirds is a P-47D Razorback version, so-called for the sharp ridge on the upper fuselage behind the pilot’s canopy. The model depicts a P-47D of the 47th Fighter Squadron, which was activated on December 1, 1940 and was initially based in Hawaii. The model bears the colorful logo of “the Turnip Termites” squadron, and the plane is finished in a predominantly silver color. The squadron was credited with shooting down eight Japanese aircraft during the infamous Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, while it also went on to serve in other theaters of combat. Interestingly, the 47th Tactical Fighter Squadron is still in existence today flying the A-10 Warthog. This is a spectacular model, and it is enhanced by an authentic-looking scenic base that comes with the scale aircraft model. The diorama shows a section of airfield that is beautifully textured and painted in a most realistic fashion. |

The VF-102 Diamondbacks were established on
July 1, 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida. Having served on numerous
carriers, the Diamondbacks have proven themselves to be one of the most
versatile strike fighter squadrons in the Navy. On September 19, 2001
the VF-102 Diamondbacks departed NAS Oceana for the Arabian Sea. In the
wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, the squadron began its scheduled
deployment as a part of Operation Infinite Justice and began combat
operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During that
deployment VF-102 flew 3,346 combat hours and dropped 645 bombs.
Following the their return from deployment, the squadron was transferred
to NAS Lemoore, California to begin transition training in the Navy’s
newest Strike Fighter, the F/A-18F. The Tailcode for VFA-102 is NF. This
is the tailcode for CVW-5. VFA-102 recently celebrated their 50th
anniversary at Atsugi NAS. In 2005 the "Diamondbacks"
celebrated their 50th anniversary at their base in In 2005 they marked

Corsair
"White Arrow #107" VF-84 The Wolf Gang USS Bunker Hill |
$26.98 DRW50128 |
About VF-84: During 1944, there were actually two "Jolly Rogers" squadrons in the US Navy. While VF-17 remained as the official "Jolly Rogers," another squadron with the same name entered the Pacific theatre as well. Created by former VF-17 members who were transferred to this new squadron after their first tour, Fighting 84 was officially named "The Wolf Gang." However, because so many members of Fighting 84 were ex-Fighting 17 members, the group came to see themselves as the true "Jolly Rogers." Indeed, there was an official attempt made to secure the "Jolly Rogers" name, given that the original VF-17 had been disestablished at that time. However, the Navy had re-commissioned VF-17 shortly before Hedrick's attempt, and so the request was denied. Ironically, ten years after Fighting 84's disestablishment in 1945, another Fighting 84 would be formed which would adopt the official "Jolly Rogers" name 4 years after their formation. This squadron would go on to adorn their aircraft with the skull-&-crossbones for nearly forty years. About the F4U-1D Corsair: In 1942 production of the Corsair began, a lightweight fighter paired with the most powerful engine then available. It was used successfully as a carrier-based fighter bomber by the US Navy and Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War 2. It had a distinctive front profile with its inverted gull-wings, necessary to give enough ground clearance for the large propeller. This A total of 12,681 Corsairs were produced. About the USS Bunker Hill (CV-17): USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) was an Essex-class aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, nicknamed "Holiday Express" for her many attacks launched around the end of the year. Bunker Hill received the Presidential Unit Citation for the period 11 November 1943 to 11 May 1945. In addition, she received 11 battle stars for her World War II service. Shipping $6.95 in the USA |

During World War II, the Bf 109 (me 109) was the backbone of the Luftwaffe fighter force, serving on all fronts and also in the air forces of its European allies. Even though the superior Fw 190 began to replace the Bf 109 in some units as early as the summer of 1941, production of the Bf 109 actually rose until the closing months of the war and it remained the most numerous Luftwaffe fighter. By war's end, Germany had built over 30,000 Bf 109's. Production of the Bf 109 continued on after the war in Czechoslovakia until 1949 and in Spain until 1958. It remains to this day the most produced fighter in history. | ||||

About
Takali 1942: British submarines and planes operating from the island fortress of Malta had sent thousands of tons of Axis ships to the bottom of the Mediterranean. Axis air forces were employed to neutralize the island’s defence's to make way for an invasion under the code name Operation HERKULES. The Axis aerial attacks reached severe levels after 21 March 1942. Outnumbered and short of supplies, the island’s British defenders clung on, with a series of deliveries of new Spitfires coming at critical times. In the end it was the Spitfires who saved the day and turned the tide, with the German offensive faltering after mid-May. In total, 500 Axis planes were destroyed or severely damaged, most of these accounted for by the remarkable Spitfire. Shipping in the USA $6.05 |
